Mr. Thomas Fedor

The Gilbert Avenue Elementary School is a small, culturally diverse, neighborhood school where a quality partnership exists between teachers, staff and parents, all taking a personal interest in each and every student.  Future challenges can be seen in improvements to the school building and the ability to instruct an increasing student population.

Gilbert Avenue Elementary School offers a comprehensive program to students in grades K-5.  Emphasis is placed on helping students attain, to the best of their ability, the highest scores in reading, mathematics and writing, along with social studies and science. The arts, physical development, health and student well-being are also addressed.  A world language program, grades K-5, is focused on Spanish.

Gilbert Avenue teachers strive for continued professional advancement by participating in workshops, professional development conferences, graduate course work and serving on several district curriculum committees.  Through these efforts, the state’s core curriculum content standards are addressed.  Special programs exist for gifted and talented students, speech students and special education students.  An elementary guidance program provides individual and small group attention and has brought anti-drug, anti-violence and interpersonal skills programs to Gilbert Avenue School.

Gilbert Avenue has a very active and involved parent association.  Members work hard to raise monies for programs, which help complement the existing curriculum.  Parents serve on school, district and community committees, which help set goals and standards for student progress.

Computer education is an integral part of the daily program at Gilbert Avenue.  Students work individually and in groups to improve their awareness of technology.

Teachers, parents and students at Gilbert Avenue are excited with the educational direction in which we are moving.  We welcome the challenges, which are presented daily, and look forward to the challenges that will be forthcoming in the future.
