USE OF MEDICATION

Any student who is required to take medication during the regular school hours must have a written statement from the family physician which identifies the type, dosage, time interval, purpose, and side effects of the medication.  Written permission by the parent/guardian must accompany the medication.   Non-prescription drugs are not to be administered unless written permission is received from your physician which identifies the type, dosage, time interval, purpose, and side effects of the medication.  Written permission by the parent/guardian must accompany the medication.  This includes such preparations as cough drops, lozenges, cold tablets, cough medications, and aspirin.

Medication must be given to the school nurse in the prescription container and properly labeled by the pharmacist or physician. The school physician will be advised periodically of any drugs administered by the school nurse to a student attending school.  No unqualified or unlicensed individual shall administer medication to any student in the school system. This is in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act (in the N.J.S.A.45:11-37 et seq).

Great news!!  The nurse has a new office.  It is located in a perfect location on the first floor.  Enter the school in the new main entrance, located in the middle of the

school by the parking area.  First sign in at the office and then make a left till the last room on your left.  The new room is larger and well equipped for the student’s medical need.

Please call the secretary if your child is absent for any reason.  This includes vacations and doctor and dentist visits.   Please state the reason for the absence, including type of illness.   Please give a doctor’s note if a student had a rash, conjunctivitis (pink eye), streph throat, serious injury or illness.

Please update your emergency numbers.  Always include two extra emergency numbers in addition to your own.  Emergency cards should include work, home and cell phone numbers.  Please inform the nurse if your child has any medical conditions and if they are taking any medications.  The student needs a prescription from the doctor and parent information.  Also medication needs to be brought in a labeled container, and be labeled be pharmacist or physician.
