MRS. SPORILLO’S THIRD GRADE HAPPENINGS

2008 – 2009

With the new school year just under way, we are eager beavers to learn about apples, researching key apple growing states, varieties, and uses.  Our reading of “Johnny Appleseed” introduced us to our unit on apples and we just finished writing “poetic” apples.  This was truly a “delicious” activity.

We recently completed our landform projects.  We created different types of landforms such as mountains, volcanoes, rivers, peninsulas, and valleys using craft items found at home.  Our classroom looks like a picture of an atlas.

Our third grade community is currently in the process of creating a community similar to that of “Roxaboxen”.  Each team will construct a facet of our imaginary community, and we will all share in establishing laws and rules for its citizens.  We know that in order for this activity to be successful, we must work cooperatively, just as citizens in a real community need to do in order to prosper.

Our October book report will be about scary stores, or mysteries that we like to read.  Hopefully we won’t get spooked!

Have a great year!
