Self-Contained Special Education Class

Fall 2008

Welcome Back to School!

We have begun our new school year and are off to a great start!  We started out the year by reviewing the lessons we were taught last year.  We have started to evolve into our new instructional material and classroom procedures.  In reading, we are covering  phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, fluency and comprehension. We are utilizing phonetics, and emphasizing visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles.  In math, we will be covering greater than and less than, addition and subtraction story problems, and addition combinations. We are working our way towards fact families. We are very excited for the rest of our school year!

FALL 2008

AM Class

Working in the Resource Room is a wonderful experience and I am glad to be here at the Sixteenth Avenue School! Miss Figueroa and I work very hard with every student in the subjects of Reading, Language Arts, Spelling, and Math. Through small group instruction, we are often able to work individually with each student. We try to teach our students skills and lessons that can help them both in and out of the classroom. With hard work and determination, I am convinced that we can succeed together!

PM Class

Mrs. Toscano’s classes are off to a great start.  Her classes have a lot of new and exciting things to learn.  In math, we will be using a hands-on approach.  We will be using manipulative to reinforce the skills that we are learning.  In reading, we will be reading exciting stories that take us on many trips.  Through the children’s imagination they will be learning and exploring.
