Fall 2008
Summer days are just a memory now as we begin the fall semester at 16th Avenue School We all look forward to the many challenges which await us.
I have completed the screening of new students who may be eligible for ESL services. This year we welcome new students from Macedonia, Georgia, Poland and India. I am also very happy to welcome back those ESL students who will be continuing in our program this year. The new kindergarteners are very enthusiastic and eager to participate in ESL activities.
Our ESL textbooks and workbooks will be used to complement the curriculum in the mainstream classrooms. This tailored instruction will help bilingual students function in their classrooms as they grasp grade level content area. Conversation skills are already improving even after this short time.
A multitude of languages are spoken by our multicultural population. I look forward to teaching and learning about their many customs. I extend my warmest wishes and much success to all of 16th Avenue's diverse population.
