Counselor:         Janel Blake, MSW, LS

I have been working with children since I began my professional career in 1996.  I am a trained social worker who works as a counselor in all three elementary schools in Elmwood Park.

My role in the schools is to provide a safe place for children who are struggling with issues related to difficulties in learning, social relations, problem solving, anger management, low self-esteem, a crisis situation, loss, divorce, and family stressors.

In addition, I function as a consultant to teachers, school staff and parents to assist in managing difficult behaviors and emotional and social concerns that occur both at home and at school.  I also work collaboratively with community resources and private therapists to enhance the child’s experience in all areas of his/her life.

I receive referrals for counseling from parents, principals, teachers, and individual education plans.

-I am a mother of three children and am aware that with each stage of a child’s development comes amazing growth and new challenges.  It is my hope that I can help teachers and parents guide their children through these challenges while promoting a healthy sense of self.

I am at Sixteenth Avenue School on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. - 12 noon.

I can be reached by calling the main number @ (201) 796-8700 @ X 2992.
