WELCOME TO THE THIRD GRADE!
Fall 2008
The Third Graders have been very busy since the start of the new school year. In reading, we read stories entitled “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” and “Goldilocks.” The skills we are learning are sequencing, drawing conclusions, and identifying the author’s purpose. Our classes are enjoying reading the book Freckle Juice by Judy Blume.
In mathematics, our classes are focusing on addition and subtraction strategies. We are also problem-solving and estimating sums and differences.
In language arts, students are exploring different kinds of writing. We have written self-descriptions and narratives about a family outing. Soon students will write a compare and contrast composition. In grammar, we are reviewing sentences and identifying subjects and predicates.
In social studies, students are learning about communities and mapping skills. Our health lessons are focused on making responsible decisions and demonstrating good character. In science, students are exploring the Earth’s resources.
The Third Graders are looking forward to learning about more exciting topics and taking on additional challenges this year!!!
