Second Grade News
Fall 2008
Welcome to a new school year! We are thrilled to be back in the classroom where we look forward to spending a wonderful and enriching year with your children. We believe that a good learning experience is built on a cooperative effort among parent, child, and teacher.
Our expectations for conduct and academic standards are high. We believe that in order for your child to succeed, he/she must always try their best in all subjects. Homework and participation are a necessary part of the second grade curriculum and contribute to your child’s overall grades. Students should follow all school and classroom rules.
September has been a busy month! We have been reviewing basic Math and Reading skills and are learning all about each other. In Reading, the students are working hard toward becoming fluent readers. They have been learning various strategies to help them decode words. Addition and subtraction is our theme in Math. The second graders are reviewing math problems up to 18. Soon we will be learning place value. It is all about dinosaurs in Science! The students are excited to explore and discover many different facts about the extinct animals that lived millions of years ago. Our second graders are also reading about communities in Social Studies, and beginning to understand how working together in the classroom creates our own classroom community.
We are looking forward to this year, and believe that with your support we can make your child’s second grade experience both productive and enjoyable.
